Invest for the long term

I helped a friend to invest $150,000 in a few China stocks for the long term. These stocks have a price earning ratio of less than 10 times, a dividend yield of more than 4%. They are blue chip companies with a large market capitalization. She bought the stocks in the Hong Kong exchange at a discount of 20% to 50% of the price in Shanghai.

As my friend intends to invest for the long term, I suggested that these stocks are quite safe. She can get a good dividend yield (more than 4% per annum). The stocks also have the potential to achieve a good capital gain.

After two months, the stocks have appreciated by over $20,000. The capital gain is about 15%.

Previously, she was advised by her bank to invest the money in a life insurance policy that gave a cash value that is 5% higher than the invested sum at the end of five years. The return is 1% per annum. She canceled the policy and reinvested it in the stocks that I suggested.
