Review of ICBC bank (1398.HK)
10 Jan 2022 (210 views)

I own 331,000 shares of ICBC (1398.HK) at an average cost of $4.59 HKD. My total investment is $1,519,000 HKD ($264,000 SGD).

The lowest price was $4.19 on 1 Nov 21. At this worst point, my loss was 9.8% or $25,000 SGD.

The stock price has since recovered to $4.63 giving me a small gain of 0.8%.

At the current price, the PE ratio is 4.82 times and the dividend yield is 7.0%. This stock gives good value compared to DBS bank (PE ratio of 14.3 times and dividend yield is 3.8%). Based on PE ratio, DBS bank is 2.97 times more expensive than ICBC.

ICBC price was weak during the past two months due to concern over their exposure to the property market in China. The Evergrande crisis is now largely solved, so the China banks should recover strongly from here.

I expect ICBC stock to move up over the next few weeks. My target price is $5.56 (i.e the high over the past 52 weeks or 21% higher than the current price).

Note - This is my personal speculation. I am not giving investment advice.
