I hold 90,000 shares of Cosco Shipping Holdings at an average cost of HK$13.28. The current price is $8.23. There is a dividend of $2.20 that is payable this month, giving me a value of $10.43. My holdings now show a loss of 20% based on my cost.
At the current price, the PE ratio is 1.0 X and the dividend yield is 38.65%. The past year (2021) has been exceptionally good. However, the current year (2022) may see a drop in earnings and dividend, due to the covid restriction.
The projected PER is 4.34, which implies an earnings yield of 23%. I expect the dividend yield to be 16%, assuming that 70% of earnings are paid out. This is still attractive.
The debt to equity ratio is 39%. This is acceptable. It is not high.
The book value per share is $13.77. The current price of $8.23 shows a discount of 40% on the book value.
The current price in Hong Kong showed a 44% discount on the price in Shanghai.
After considering all the above factors, I decided to buy another 40,000 shares at $8.32.
