NTUC Income Shield policy is too expensive
26 Sep 2023 (1243 views)

Dear Mr. Tan,
My name is L, age 65 this year, retired.

May I seek your advice on NTUC Income Shield Policy. I have been a customer of NTUC Income since at your helm with Income. My policy plan type is Enhanced Preferred with Plus Rider. Today, I just received the renewal policy and was shocked that the total Premium has substantially increased to $7,771.35. Amount payable $6,099.07 after subsidies and deduction from Medisave Account. This has becomes unaffordable by me now.

How should I downgrade the plan with sufficient coverage for my health plan.

If you are in good health and is not suffering from any known medical problem, it is best to downgrade to Medishield Life (the basic plan). I am covered under Medishield Life and pays an annual premium less than $1,000.

You can cancel the private insurance coverage and plus rider. Under Medishield Life, you have to be treated in a subsidized ward in a government hospital.
