Engage a building surveyor to check for defects

My friend is taking the keys to his executive condo which has just been completed. He arranged for a surveyor to do an inspection. He will pay a fee for the inspection.

As the surveyor is experienced in this kind of work, he will know what to look for. The surveyor will prepare a report. This will be helpful in filing for defects with the developer.

As the executive condo cost nearly $1 million, the fee for the inspection report is quite modest.

If you engage a professional surveyor, you pay a fee of (say) $300. If you do not pay this fee and you encounter a dispute later with the developer on the defects, you may have to pay a few thousand dollars in legal fees.

Most people want to save a few hundred dollars upfront and have to spend many times more later!
