Tell your readers to be careful about using plumbers that advertised in the internet with a Google Ad.
I encountered a plumber recently to handle an urgent leaking problem. They replace the water heater and charge me a large sum. I was not aware about the market price at that time. As the water was leaking badly, I agreed to the charge.
Later, I learned that I was overcharged by more than $300.
The plumber who came to do the work was a subcontractor. I suspect that he is a Malaysian and is not registered with the PUB.
It seems that this website and its subcontractors make it their business practice to overcharge, especially for emergency cases.
I do not know how to get redress. As I have agreed to the charge out of ignorance, it is too late. I complained to them, but they give me all kinds of excuses.
Here is my advice:
1. If you have a leaking problem, ask the plumber to stop the leak. Maybe you can handle it on your own by turning off the tap that leads to the water heater. The cost of the emergency service should be less than $100.
2. Do not agree to get the replacement yet. You have the time to source for a few quotes. If you take photo of your requirement and send them to a few contractors through WhatsApp, they will be happy to reply to you. It is business for them. You will find some competitive quotes.
