My views about Tesla (TSLA)

I have invested in Tesla for the past two years and made a large profit of over $300,000 USD. I sold off all my Tesla shares in December when the price went above $750. It reached $900 in late January 2021.

Here are my views about the future prospects for Tesla.

Tesla will dominate the electric vehicle (EV) market for the next 5 to 10 years. Their EV technology is way ahead of other manufacturers by several years. It is not easy for the traditional (i.e. non EV) manufacturers to catch up on the technology.

But the market is so big. There will be room for other EV manufacturers, including the traditional manufacturers, who will move into this market.

Tesla's battery technology, manufacturing process and self driving software allow them to have a big advantage over the other manufacturers.

Tesla will be very profitable. The other manufacturers will struggle with small margins. Some of the competitors may not survive the competition.

However, Tesla's future profits are already fully reflected in the insanely high price of the stock. This was why I sold off all my Tesla stock when it passed $700.

Tesla's future will go beyond the sale of EV. They are expected to operate a network of robo-taxis (i.e. driverless taxis) in several markets, giving a challenge to Uber and Lyft. The robo-taxis will have high profit margins. Some analysts think that Tesla will make more profit from this business, rather than from the sale of EVs. We have to see how this develops.

Tesla also has a huge energy business - solar roofs, power walls, energy storage for power grids. CEO and founder Elon Musk said that the energy business will be bigger than the EV business in a few years' time. Will it materialize? We have to watch.

When Tesla stock price dropped below $700, I invested in Tesla again. I now hold 300 Tesla shares at $634. My total investment is $200,000 USD. The stock price went up to $710 last week but has since dropped back to $618. My paper profit of $23,000 became a loss of $5,000. Hehehe.

I will hold on to my Tesla shares and sell them above $800. The Tesla bulls expect the price to reach $2,000 or $3,000 in a few years' time. Maybe it will. But I will not wait that long.

Note - I am giving my views and not making any recommendation to buy or sell this stock at any specific price.
