Waiting for Tesla financial results for 1Q 2021
06 Apr 2021 (323 views)

Telsa reported delivery of 185,000 vehicles during the first quarter of 2021. This beat market expectation of 170,000 vehicles.

The stock price jumped from $660 (USD) to $690 on the first trading day after the report. I had expected the price to jump to $720, so the increase was disappointing.

Perhaps the investors are waiting for the financial results for the 1Q 2021 to be reported. This is likely to be released on 5 May 2021.

What will the results be like, and how will it affect the stock price?

During 4Q 2020, Tesla had revenue of $10,744 million and net income (i.e. profit) of $270 million.

The revenue for 1Q is likely to be lower due to reduced selling price to remain competitive in the China market.

However, Tesla is likely to report lower cost of production and to maintain the profit margin. I think that the financial results for the 1Q will be slightly more than $270 million.

If the actual results come out to be maintained at $270 million, I expect the stock price to move up. However, if it is significantly higher, it could increase to $800.

I now hold 400 shares of Tesla with a market value of $276,000 USD. I have decided to keep my 400 shares and watch the price movement over the next few weeks.

Note - I am sharing my view. I am not giving advice on whether to buy or sell this stock at any specific price.
