Tesla financial results for 1Q 2021
26 Apr 2021 (242 views)

Tesla's financial results will be released after the close of the market on 26 April.

The EPS (earning per share) for Tesla for 2020 was $0.79. Based on the current share price of $729, the PER (price earning ration) is 1,139 times!

The analysts expect the EPS for the current quarter to be $0.79 and for the whole of 2021 to be $4.32.  At this EPS, the PER for Tesla will drop to 168 times. (This is still high, but not insanely high).

In the past, the analysts have been under-estimating the results for Tesla. I expect that they will make the same mistake. The EPS is likely to be higher. I think that it could be 30% higher, giving a EPS of $1.20.  (This is just a personal opinion - do not rely on it for your investment decision).

Tesla has invested $1 billion in bitcoin and it is likely to have appreciated by 50%. However, as this investment is considered as an "intangible asset", the appreciation will not be reported in the financial results. (This is an opinion of a person who is familiar with the accounting treatment).

I now hold 400 shares of Tesla. I will decide tonight if I sell 200 shares to reduce my exposure, or hold the position to wait for the financial results.
